- REUSE REVOLUTION
- LAN VIET
In addition to details about Reuse Revolution and Lan Viet, North Market is also sharing new timing for opening North Market Bridge Park along with some further neighborhood updates.
The first phase announcement included five merchants and was released in November and the second phase announcement included four merchants and was released in February. Additional merchants will be announced in the coming weeks.
Reuse Revolution, a local forward-thinking zero waste retail concept store, will be joining the North Market Bridge Park merchant community this summer. Reuse Revolution was founded in 2018 by Christy Walters, who describes her mission as integrating accessible sustainability education and community outreach. Reuse Revolution focuses on providing biodegradable and/or reusable products to help people create less trash. The company encourages people to enjoy their lives while lowering their waste and affecting social change at a grassroots level. Walters embodies the belief that progress is better than perfection, every individual matters, and collective individual action impacts the way corporations and governments think and operate.
"North Market Bridge Park is a natural fit for Reuse Revolution. We encourage customers to support local artisans and small businesses at the market, while raising awareness about daily action," stated Walters. "The Bridge Park community has already been wonderfully supportive to Reuse Revolution at the Dublin Farmers' Market and we are beyond honored to join this amazing community."
Reuse Revolution participated in the North Market Farmers' Market downtown as a vendor last season in addition to their pop up shops at the Dublin Farmers' Market. The North Market Bridge Park space will be the first physical location for Reuse Revolution, who currently operates an online shop.
"North Market has already greatly benefited from the products and education offered by Reuse Revolution at our Farmers' Market downtown," said North Market's Executive Director Rick Harrison Wolfe. "It is important to North Market's mission to expand our sustainability options on a full-time basis. Christy is the best suited to the task and we couldn't be more excited!"
The Reuse Revolution product line focuses on accessibility and sustainability. They sell everything consumers need to live a zero waste or lower waste lifestyle. Product examples include: reusable stainless steel straws and straw brush cleaners, reusable coffee cups and water bottles, reusable wine and cocktail tumblers, reusable produce bags and grocery bags, silicone bowl and plate covers, beeswax food wrap to replace single use plastic wrap, bamboo toothbrushes, compostable dental floss in refillable containers, dental tabs for package free teeth cleaning, bamboo kitchen utensils for cooking, bamboo serving and display trays, compostable and FSC dish brushes of all types and styles to prevent microplastic from entering the water stream while we clean our dishes, menstrual cups, hemp pet toys, biodegradable glitter, biodegradable hemp twine for gifts and décor, plastic free shave soap, safety razors and plastic free blades, reusable nursing pads, compostable deodorant and plastic free soaps, and shampoo and conditioner options in returnable aluminum bottles.
Walters has positioned her company to be an accessible and friendly source of knowledge and solutions. Not only does she supply consistent free engagement and useful information to thousands of people through social media channels, but she has led several events with various groups from elementary schools, to girl scout troops, to local coworking spaces and business partnerships. Walters has personally spent countless hours implementing Recycle Right education in the Upper Arlington elementary schools, as well as attending SWACO and RUMPKE facility tours. Reuse Revolution is dedicated to serving Columbus and beyond in the Zero Waste/Low Waste realm. Beginners and experts alike enjoy Reuse Revolution’s community education events and reusable product offerings.
"Something that brings me joy is how frequently people will message me saying because of my Instagram stories or school talks, they picked up litter," said Walters. "That means the world to me. Many have messaged me again later to share that because they had picked up litter, their child or neighbor witnessed their action, and felt compelled to do the same. This gives me hope and happiness about our community and our future!"
Lan Viet has served authentic northern Vietnamese cuisine to loyal customers at North Market downtown for the past ten years. Owned by Khanh Le and his mother Lan Pham, Lan Viet will bring their experience and dedication to North Market Bridge Park later this summer. Le has worked at Lan Viet Market for most of their tenure downtown, and in the past year, he has taken on owner and management responsibilities. The restaurant concept will show off their heritage and culture through their food. The new restaurant will be Lan Viet's second location.
"Our family is from Hanoi, which is located in northern Vietnam," said Le. "There is so much history in our cuisine and many people do not realize there is a distinct difference between regional cuisine in Vietnam. Although Hanoi is the birthplace of pho, the United States was introduced to Vietnamese cuisine primarily through southern Vietnamese immigrants after the war. We want to use our new restaurant in Bridge Park as a platform to highlight and share northern Vietnamese flavors."
Lan Viet will offer delicious and affordable well known Vietnamese dishes such as pho, banh mi, and rice noodle bowls. They will also offer popular appetizers like Vietnamese egg rolls, summer rolls, and bean sprout salads. Lan Viet uses all fresh and healthy ingredients, and everything is made fresh to order. The pho starts with a 24-hour broth made from over 150 pounds of bones. All of their meat is trimmed and cut in house.
"Lan and Khanh fully embody the spirit of excellent customer service," said Wolfe. "This family continually proves themselves to be dedicated to their craft and to the community, and we are thrilled to see them take their business to the next level."
Lan Viet will serve affordable, authentic, and accessible Vietnamese cuisine with a menu featuring pho, a Vietnamese noodle soup that will consist of a homemade broth with pho noodles and a sliced protein, garnished with cilantro and scallions and accompanied by an accoutrement of beansprouts, thai basil, jalapenos and lime. Another menu entree is the rice noodle bowl, which is a bowl of jasmine rice and rice noodles, topped with a protein and accompanied by a salad of lettuce, beansprouts, tomatoes, and cucumbers; garnished with cilantro, fried shallots, and peanuts; and sauced with a sweet chilli dressing. The banh mi will consist of a rice flour sub, baked in house, topped with Maggi seasoning sauce, mayo, pate, cilantro, cucumber, and pickled daikon and carrots.
"We are so thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Bridge Park family and are excited to feed the community Hanoi-style Vietnamese food," said Le. "At our Bridge Park location we want to expand our menu and pay homage to Hanoi and northern style Vietnamese food. We want to show that there are more flavors to explore past pho and banh mi's."
